The development of communication technology has made a problem that has been obscured in the era of mass communication highlighted: Is the news provided by the media needed by audience? In the era of mass communication, the media can selectively ignore this issue by virtue of its own strong position. But in the era of mobile Internet, media have to recognize and solve this problem,if they expect to survive in competitions.Research from western academic circles shows that there is a significant difference in news preferences between media and users, both in the era of mass communication and in the era of mobile Internet.Through literature review,we find that there is no direct research in Chinese academic circles. With the help of Zigmund Baumann‘s ?Flowing Modernity? theory,as well as in-depth interviews with 27 journalists working in China Daily and its 113 news users around the world, this article attempts to research on differences in news selection between Chinese media and users. The study found:There is a difference in news preferences between the media and the user. The media prefers to report on public news such as politics, economy, diplomacy, etc.,However, users prefer entertainment, culture and other publicly less prominent news. The difference in news preferences between media and users has context-driven dynamics: in the event of a major political event or an unexpected event, the difference in news preferences between the media and the user will be narrowed. The mechanism for generating differences in news preferences between media and users is the role conflict between the media as "promoters" and "communicators" and users who are "monitorial citizens" and " players".In the context of the user‘s role as ?monitorial citizen?,if the media acts as a ?promoter?,the news provided conflicts with the user‘s daily life experience;or the news provided is difficult to satisfy the user.Deep and refined demands will lead to an increase in the difference in news preferences. In the absence of major events, users tend to consume news in the role of "heavy players." The difference in news preferences during this period exists in a more stable static form.Driven by digital technology,?News Curation? has become a kind of coping imagination for professional media including China Daily to meet user needs. From the perspective of the news production process, the emergence of news curation is the secondary mediation of the traditional news communication process. As far as current news practices are concerned, news curation as a way to bridge the choice of differences has not been able to integrate with the news routine. At the same time, the diversity of curatorial subjects also makes professional media face many challenges in the process of news production and communication. As the Internet and everyday life become more and more closely integrated, people have entered the world of ?liquid modernity? to a certain extent. Both the journalism industry and the users themselves have begun to appear "liquefaction".The relationship between media and users has also become complicated. In order to remove uncertainty, professional media have begun to embark on the road to transformation. In China's social context, the "party media dominate microphones again" has become the most important change in the professional media field. How to adhere to the value of journalism and undertake social responsibility in the tension between public opinion guidance and use service,as well as the tension between global propaganda and local understanding, has become problems every professional media have to solve.
