In the context of the Internet,platishers have created an open digital platform for information distribution and communication.The technologies of platishers have been experiencing rapid development with the constant advancement of the Internet.However,the platishers have also posed new challenges for the traditional gatekeeper theories.In the Internet era,there emerge the needs from the audience to gain information from the Internet more swiftly and more accurately.Such needs have led to the birth of platishers and distribution models relying on the computational recommendation algorithms.Under such circumstances,gatekeepers of platishers are required to establish new mechanisms and coping strategies.Gatekeepers ought to keep updating their knowledge of platisher gatekeeping mechanisms at home and abroad,which is beneficial for developing laws and regulations for relevant access mechanisms.In addition,it can facilitate the information deliverance from the platishers to the targeted audience.Those issues in reality mentioned about are the focal points of the study.This study is based on one of the founders of American communication science,Kurt Lewin's "gatekeeper" theory.Through organizing previous literature,such as early-stage press editors' gatekeeping,new media weakened gatekeeping,and the mature new media gatekeeping focusing on audience check;The main contents of the study are in-depth analysis of the cause of formation,structure and function of the platisher ecology.This study strives to study platisher gatekeeping mechanism from a different angle to further develop the traditional gatekeeper theories.The study looks into the contents posted by left-wing sources,right-wing sources and neutral sources on the platishers from 19-23 September,2016 and 26-27 September,2016.Based on the content investigation,the case study then reevaluates Facebook's performance in content generation,gatekeeping,aggregated communication,audience feedback and follow-ups of new products.Meanwhile,the study also conducts detailed analysis on a blog post by a mainstream news source,Freedom Daily,in September,2016.Freedom Daily has more than 1 million followers,and the blog post has won 14,000 reposts,9,000 likes and over 2,000 comments.With the rapid update of computational recommendation algorithm iteration,the platisher is evolving quickly as well.There are a number of relevant cases abroad,therefore,the study has selected multiple untranslated cases written in English for analysis to find out what challenges for gatekeeping are platishers including Facebook are facing nowadays.After analysis,the study has pinpointed several difficulties for platisher gatekeeping: cocoon effect,polarization phenomenon,sensational headline writers,etc.To address the challenges,a gatekeeping mechanism is purposed in the paper by explaining its structure,function,relationship and effects.The suggested platisher gatekeeper utilizes the computer filtering algorithm as the core to achieve the goal of spiral-up and iteration by “using users train algorithms,and in turn the algorithms understand the users.” Unlike traditional simple computational filtering algorithms,the new algorithm is combined with manual editing to convey news values through holding dialogues from identification,interpretation,investigation,aggregation and other higher-level perspectives.The study also offers recommendations for improving the existing platisher gatekeeping mechanisms to better cope with new issues in the new communication environment.
