Narrative Research On Crime News Reports

Mieke Bal has put forward that the narratology is a theory of narration、narrative text、image、things、events and cultural products that tell stories.And News reports are stories about the real world,so it can be included in the research field of narratology as cultural products.As an important category of news reports,crime news coverage is a double-edged sword.On one hand,it can provide criminal facts,promote social social progress and judicial reform;but on the other hand,for media positioning and others reasons,there are a variety of phenomenons violating the professionalism and ocial ethics when the newspapers report the crime news.Then how to describe the crime story to make it continue to play a positive effect and avoid negative effects of the problem needs to be explored.We can use the theory of narratology to answer this question.Taking into account that the Shenzhen Evening is the only one large-scale comprehensive evening newspaper in Shenzhen Special Zone;the circulation is close to 200,000 copies that make the influence of it spread across the country in Shenzhen;at the same time,Shenzhen Evening takes the "serve the communinty、facing the family、concerned about the people’s livelihood" as the newspaper policy,showing a comprehensive perspective and hot news reports in-depth thorough reporting characteristics,I believe that crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening have a important significance of research and reference.The study adopts literature review、content analysis and text analysis to study the crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening from 2012 to 2016.The research attempts to explore the the narrative features and narrative law of the crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening through specific text.On this foundation,this resarch explores the the matters for attention when the newspaper report the crime news.We also expect the study to be able to inspire the other newspapers in the country.The study is divided into four parts.The first analyzes the current situation of criminal news research at home and abroad to find the research problems that can be discussed in dept;and then describe the research questions and methods of this research.The second part starts from the deginition of crime、 news and crime news to give the definition of crime news report in this paper;then combs the theory and research of narratology and news narratology.The third part analyzes the narrators 、 narrative perspectives,narrative time,narrative rhythm and narrative structure of criminal news reports of the Shenzhen Evening one by one.Through the analysis of narrator of crime news report of Shenzhen Evening,we found that:(1)there are many voices in crime news report of Shenzhen Evening.Multi-party sounds provide newsfacts from the multi-faceted.At the same time,The opposite views can be reciprocally confirmed.(2)the crime news report gains a comprehensive information channel,but the information channels are always anonymous that makes the voice uncertain.(3)Judges and polices appears frequently,but the suspects are absent,wich is due to discourse ideology and China’s shame caused.By analyzing the narrative perspective of crime news report of Shenzhen Evening,we found that :(1)crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening use omniscient perspective and inner focus perspective to narrate.This help readers to watch the whole picture of criminal events,broaden the depth of the report;meanwhile makes the reports fresh and vivid.(2)There are fewer crime news reports about the secrecy,but are mainly focused on low-income groups.This easily leads to stereotypes of this population,resulting in class discrimination.By analyzing the narrative time and narrative rhythm of crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening,we found that:(1)the crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening mainly use the time technique of flasback and pre-narration to find the appropriate entry point for the crime story and set the conflict and suspense.(2)the crime news reports of Shenzhen Evening mainly use the omission and outline forms to improve the narrative speed and form a patchwork of criminal news reports.supplemented by the unity and repetitive narrative way.Through the analysis of the narrative structure of criminal news coverage of Shenzhen Evening,we found that:(1)crime news reports mainly use the vertical vertical structure and horizontal structure.The vertical structure takes the key nodes of time and event development as the logical starting point and then narrate the the occurrence,development,climax and ending of the event.Through the vertical structure,the author can clearly record the the key aspects of the process of crime,presenting a clear event development context for the readers.(2)The horizontal structure usually narrtes around the different sides and the different characters the same theme.When reporting the more serious cimes,Shenzhen Evening mainly uses the horizontal structure to narrate.The horizontal structure uses multiple events and characters to foil the same theme to make the crime news reports more convincing.The fourth part summarizes the above findings and provides suggestions about how to report the crime news correctly from the perspective of the concept and the news business.
