Antenna,as a major component used to transmit and receive electromagnetic wave in the wireless communication system, its performance plays an important role in the working ability of the whole system. This thesis proposed a new dual S-PIN(Surface-PIN),and designed several styles of S-PIN chip antenna with reconfigurable frequency on this basis.S-PIN solid state plasma technology is based on integrated circuit(IC)manufacturing processes, the difference between and the PIN diode is that the plasma channel with metal like properties can be formed.Solid state plasma atenna technology addresses the challenges of millimetre wave communications while also delivering the low cost and low power consumption of a single monolithic silicon chip.Working contents and innovative points of this thesis are listed as follows.Firstly, according to the technological level of the semiconductor at present in our country,a new dual S-PIN solid state plasma is proposed. The simulation tools COMSOL Multiphysics and CST STUDIO SUITE are applied to study the influence of dual S-PIN geometric structure and different silicon-based resistivity on concentration and consumption of carriers in the plasma region.Secondly, the electrical characteristics of the dual S-PIN solid state plasma which proposed in this thesis are studied, including potential distribution, carrier concentration,volt-ampere characteristic, power consumption, thermal analysis and switching characteristic. The dual S-PIN solid-state plasma unit is fabricated and tested, which provides the basis for the design of S-PIN solid-state plasma frequency reconfigurable chip antenna.Thirdly,on the basis of dual S-PIN solid state plasma,a silicon-based X and Ka band S-PIN frequency reconfigurable chip antenna unit and array are proposed.By switching the dual S-PIN on and off to realize frequency reconfigurable. The effects of DC bias, carrier concentration and silicon-based resistivity on antenna gain, secondary lobe level and total radiation efficiency are studied. The antenna array can be switched between 10 GHz and 31 GHz.Working bandwidth of two bands are both wider than 6%.Realized gains are greater than 10 dBi.Experimental results and the analysis of that are shown in this thesis. Finally,an X and Ku band S-PIN solid state plasma frequency reconfigurable chip antenna is proposed. The antenna impedance matching points are adjusted by controlling the working state of the dual S-PIN solid state plasma,so that the two working bands of the antenna share one microstrip feeder.Simulation results show that the antenna can realize frequency reconstruction at 8.5 GHz and 15.5 GHz.
