In recent years, with the continuous improvement of comprehensive national strength,China is playing an increasingly important role in the international community which also twisting with more complex international challenges.China's socialist core value system has been raised with unprecedented attention and has been functioned as a solid foundation and guidance of the development in China's new period. It is of great significance to improve media report on our country's values, especially the political values and to reduce the misunderstanding among China and European countries.China's positive national image and international comprehension cannot be successfully achieved without the just and appropriate media promotion on China's main political values. This study focuses on the chronological comparative study of media coverage on political values from both sides. The “ou fang” refers to the EU countries rather than the overall Europe under geographical meaning.First, choosing resources and samples for text analysis: according to authoritative and typical aspect, popularity, availability, this study selected People's Daily as the resource for discourse and text analysis on China's side.Whilst in Europe, through repeated comparison and selection, finally we focused on Europa newsroom and POLITICO-EU.Second,prior of discourse and text analysis, this study had chosen three master students to build up an “analyzing and judging group” within which each one has been qualified through “reliability text”.Only with “reliability text” can we make sure the discourse and text analysis is object and just.Third, how we supposed to choose representative political values: this research has made in-depth interviews with 49 citizens who are of different ages, nationalities(EU Member States)and occupations, asking them about China's political values.Combining with these interviews,we also did literature review and gathered inspiration from authoritative scholars which contributed to our final research themes: values of peaceful development, human right and rule of law. Finally, this study emphasize in qualitative methods by referring to the discourse of historical approach and symbolic interactionism theories. We made discourse and text analysis on selected media coverage from both sides and did academic comparison on these three political values: comparison of media amount, report attitude, comprehension and interpretation strategy. We finally chose 1665 qualified news articles from People's Daily and 182 from around 300 news articles relating to China in POLITICAL-EU.We found out: 1.the EU side often use discourse strategies of prediction, intensification nomination in order to expressing its critical attitude implicitly.2.Two sides have miscomprehension on the same concept,or make it short;two sides have different signified meaning to the same signifier, thereby affecting the overall interpretation on political values.3.On the aspect of fluctuation trend on news coverage amount, there is high relevance of both sides in media report on “peaceful development”,low relevance on “rule of law” report and no relevance on “human right” report.4.Chinese reporters are more inclined to have distinct attitude, which make the news appear an “inverted pyramid” feature relating to its attitude on certain topics. While the EU side don't have direct expression on "love or hate",which makes room for its readers to understand what the news supposed to convey and the “two-side-illustration” strategy also add objectivity to news.Five suggestions has been raised for reducing misunderstanding on China's main political values and improve the healthy media promotion on China's national image: 1.Putting emphasis on “modernizing” interpretation on traditional culture concepts in the report.2.Strengthen mutual resources sharing by boosting culture, information and people exchanges.3.Chinese reports should adjust its way on expressing its attitudes in order not to be so direct and unconvincing.4.Chinese media should pay attention to the critical content from EU's report which appears in a hidden and implicit approach.5.Chinese media should relatively increase the usage of "two-side-illustration" mode and leave space for its reader to think independently.
