Current Affair Magazine And Industry Of ROC Guangdong

In the early 1930 s,the Guangdong society under the rule of Chen Jitang gradually moved from turmoil to a relatively stable one,and the politicians then in Guangdong devoted themselves to the development of economy issues and people's livelihood.The media environment is also more relaxed than in the early years of the Republic of China.A large number of current affairs publications issued during that period,discuss social development issues have become a major feature of Guangdong publications during this period.Among them,"New Kwangtung" magazine has the longest duration,and it is also the most important current affair magazine during Chen Ji tang's regime.Since its first issue,the "New Kwangtung" magazine focused on Guangdong's social and economic development,and set the promotion of industry,culture and education as its own purpose.This article takes the magazine "New Kwangtung" as the research object.From the perspective of social development,this paper examines how the "New Kwangtung" reports,presents and promotes the construction and development of Guangdong's industry during the Republic of China.As a current affairs publication aimed at “a systematic record of all aspects of Guangdong's consolidation and construction”,the“New Kwangtung” focused on the rapid industrial development at that time.From the perspective of Guangdong's social situation and people's livelihood,the "New Kwangtung" actively stated the advantages of provincial industrialization and promoted the construction of provincial industries.In the context of the world economic crisis,the "New Kwangtung" explored the causes of the decline of private industry from the international and domestic dimensions.Through a large number of reports and review articles,it sought countermeasures for the silk industry to get out of the predicament.On the issue of labor,the "New Kwangtung" revealed the real living conditions of Guangdong workers during the economic crisis.On the other hand,it paid attention to the fate of overseas Chinese laborers,and used the magazine as a platform to discuss measures to protect the rights and interests of overseas Chinese workers.The "New Kwangtung" also paid attention to rural industries.Through a series of reports,it revealed the harm of rural taxation,and demonstrated the rationality of the provincial-owned sugar industry to replace the rural sugar industry.Generally speaking,the "New Kwangtung” presented an industrial landscape ofGuangdong in the early 1930 s,and helped promoting the development of Guangdong's industry.
