A Study On The Masculinities Of Chinese TV News Announcers

In TV news programs,male voices or verbal languages with hegemonic masculinity have long dominated.However,in recent years,influenced by feminism,consumer culture and post-modern culture,news broadcast hosting style is undergoing a quiet change.The civilianization of the moderator's perspective,the entertainment of expression constantly impacts the dominating masculinity that makes it fading,leaving room for the growth of the news actor's the collusive masculinity.This paper combines Cornell's masculinities theory with the masculinities of the current Chinese TV news program announcers as an example to try to define,analyze and evaluate this cultural phenomenon.The first chapter to the fourth chapter are the main parts of the thesis:The first chapter uses the Cornell masculinities theory to define the masculinities and its characteristics,think that masculinities has the characteristics of diversity and social construction.The relationship between gender temperament and biological sex is not as close as we imagined,the female host can also construct a hegemonic masculinity.The second chapter classifies the masculinities of TV news presenters according to Cornell's masculinities classification: hegemonic masculinity is common in current politics news,survey news and sports news programs;the collusive masculinity is common in local news and news talk shows.The third chapter explores motivations of the masculinities of the current TV news announcer from the internal creation and production environment of the TV news program and the external social and cultural environment.This paper argues that news consumerism's penetration of news ideas,the improvement of audience status and the combination of post-modern culture and consumer culture have promoted the coexistence of the dominating masculinity and the collusive masculinity of the announcer and host.The fourth chapter is a review of the value of masculinities of news program host.The coexistence of the dominating masculinity and the collusive masculinity of the news host enhances their adaptability to TV news content and technological innovation and reduces the living space of the hegemonic masculinity advocated by the patriarchy.It also challenges the patriarchal system and has certain positive significance.However,it leads the host's masculinities to a more free and open time,but it also triggers the gender anxiety of where the modern masculinitiest will go.On the other hand,driven by commercial interests,the news host deliberately alienated the hegemonic masculinity.It also hampers the free development of its masculinities.
