Huang Pilie is fond of ancient books,especially that printed in the Song dynasty.He was not only a famous book collector in Suzhou City during the Qian Jia period,but also enjoyed a high reputation in the Qing dynasty and even the whole history of collecting books.Huang Pilie played an important role in collecting,repairing,collating and engraveing about ancient books.His collection of books also had a great influence on the time and the future generations.Based on the inscriptions and postscripts written by Huang Pilie,this paper reveals the achievements and academic thoughts of Huang Pilie in various aspects.First of all,it is an introduction about Huang's life,friends and works.If the inscriptions and postscripts of Huang's were arranged on time,it could be said that they were extremely detailed diaries of the collection.The inscriptions and postscripts recorded the activities of Huang's collection and the people who made friends with him,such as scholar Qian Daxin and Duan Yucai;bibliophile Gu Baochong and Yuan Tingchou;bookseller Qian Dingmo and Tao Yunhui and so on.All these people had a close association with Huang Pilie.In addition to the inscriptions and postscripts,Huang Pilie also wrote poetry collections and a variety of collated and bibliographic works.However,whether them exists or dies,this paper intends to introduce them and mark the editions.Secondly,the paper introduces the contents and features of the inscriptions and postscripts written by Huang Pilie.Huang Pilie's inscriptions and postscripts are very numerous and complicated,involving the attitude of the collection,the origin of the collection,the process of obtaining the book,and Huang's textual research on the author,volume,content and seal of the book.He wrote the inscriptions and postscripts in prose,so many of them were written with casual language.And he wrote multiple postscripts for one book,at the same time,he kept a large of annalistic bibliotheca poems.This paper interprets the contents of Huang's inscriptions and postscripts in detail and gives a fair evaluation of their features.Thirdly,the paper discusses the achievements and thoughts of the philology embodied by the inscriptions and postscripts of Huang Pilie.He emphasized the importance of the ancient books' editions,and often mentioned the methods of edition identification when writing inscriptions and postscripts.In terms of edition thoughts,while Huang Pilie "spoiled Song edition",he also attached importance to Yuan,Ming dynasty edition,famous transcribe edition,famous emendation edition and remnant edition.Huang Pilie corrected books throughout his life,quantity is much,quality is fine.He has made great efforts in correcting errors and preserving the original appearance of ancient books,and formed his own collation theories.At the same time,Huang Pilie has compiled a variety of catalogue books on the basis of his collection and emendation.Therefore,it is extremely necessary to discuss Huang's achievements and thoughts in versioning,collating and directory.Finally,the paper points out the contribution and academic deficiency of HuangPilie's collection of books.Huang Pilie engraved many kinds of books based on that carefully collected and collated.He made great contributions to the protection and inheritance of the ancient books,which was beneficial to other scholars.And Huang Pilie spent a lot of financial resources to repair ancient books,it may be said to benefit newcomers.Huang Pilie wrote many inscriptions and postscripts,among which there are abundant historical materials.However,there are also some mistakes and arguable questions,and his ideas on the collection of books were occasionally inconsistent.This paper makes clear his merits and states his disadvantages so as to make a comprehensive and fair evaluation of the inscriptions and postscripts of Huang Pilie.
