Research On The Application Of Data Journalism In Health Communication

The revolution of the medium system will also be affected by the changing external world.In the era of big data,the advancement of technology has brought unlimited possibilities to the development of the media industry.To a certain extent,the gain of mass data has given birth to data journalism.In recent years,major media native and abroad combine "data" with "news".Data journalism presents its traditional media works in a concise and intuitive way in front of users with its unique advantages such as diversified presentation ways and rich interactive means.Data journalism has made great breakthroughs in the fields of politics,finance,sports and other news reports.At the 12th China Health Communication Conference held in 201 7,the "Health Data Journalism Award"was issued.which can be regarded as the confirmation of the unique position of health data journalism in news reporting field by the media.This paper studies the development of health communication in data journalism by taking "Digital " of Caixin.com,which has won many awards for data journalism,as an example.Taking content analysis as the main research method,combining with text analysis and in-depth interview,this paper explores the development of health data journalism from three aspects:the background,the work itself and the communication effect.This paper mainly discusses four levels of issues:first of all,"Digital" is more inclined to choose what topics to use when making health data journalism,and what factors need to be considered in the production process;Secondly,how are the data sources,report content and visual presentation of health-related data journalism related works;Thirdly,the effect of health data journalism in the process of communication and the related factors that influence the communication effect are discussed.Finally,what are the uniqueness of the combination of health issues and data journalism in the process of communication and the shortcomings and limitations of the current data journalism in health communication?Specifically,the first chapter laid out the background of data journalism,analyzes the tendency of "Digital" to choose health issues.and obtained first-hand information through interviews with insiders in "Digital" Understand the factors taken into account in the production of health data journalism.The second chapter to the fourth chapter analyze the way,the nature and amount of the data source,the scope,the topic and the type of the content,as well as the visual presentation and interactivity.The fifth chapter reviews the sampled works to explore the effects of communication in terms of amount and content.The sixth chapter summarizes the uniqueness of the combination of health issues and data journalism in the process of communication and the shortcomings and limitations of current data journalism in the health communication.The study found that when the "Digital" chooses health issues,it will plan related topics,such as Alzheimer's Disease Day and AIDS Day,on the hot moment of health anniversary.On the other hand,the topic will be determined by looking for the latest report or data published by the relevant organization;In terms of data sources,"Digital" is more inclined to select data published by the government or the media,and most works will quote two or more data sources to prove each other;In terms of the content of the report,most of them are mainly domestic news,and they pay more attention to lifestyle issues,and most of the works are mainly statistical summaries;In terms of visual presentation,static charts are mostly used,and the presentation mode is relatively simple.The use of interactive information graph is less,mostly based on low-level interaction.In the fusion of interactive graph,low-level interaction,low-level interaction and intermediate-level interaction are mostly used;In terms of communication effects,the number of user reviews is not large,and the number of comments in most works is only a few dozen.In the user review text,only a small number of users' comments relate to health knowledge.To a certain extent,it can be seen that the effect of communication is not obvious,the unreasonable setting of the topic and the channel of communication are the main factors that cause the effect of communication.Although there are many problems in health data journalism,such as fuzzy data sources,unbalanced topic setting,single visual presentation,and weak interactivity.However,data journalism applications also have unique characteristics that cannot be compared with other reporting methods in health communication.First of all,the data itself is highly persuasive,and multiple data sources are cited in the work to prove each other,making it more authoritative and credible;Secondly,the presentation of boring information is more concrete,reducing the noise in the process of receiving information by users,the readability of the works is enhanced,and the user have an advantage in accepting information;Finally,using stories instead of preaching can form emotional resonance with users and guide users to accept health knowledge in a sensibility way.
