As it continues growing,WIFI becomes an indispensable part of our life.There are more and more industries use WIFI in their productivity practices.Maintainability of WIFI equipment and stability of WIFI links become a critical indicator under such a background.The research to use AUTO-WDS as a WIFI link backup system is to lower maintenance cost of WIFI equipment and to improve stability of WIFI links.The mechanism of AUTO-WDS is to automatically turn on WDS using WDS mode in WIFI when the wired link to a device is abnormal.It will network with peripheral devices via bridging to establish a backup link so as to continue transferring traffic of users.To realize the above mentioned,AUTO-WDS is designed as a WIFI link backup system.The system consists of four modules: the message BUS module,the wireless driver module,the AUTO-WDS module,and the AUTO-WDS notification module.The message BUS module is designed to realize message forwarding and information synchronization between various modules.The module consists of three components: the receiving component,the timer component and the MIB registration component.The AUTO-WDS module is to forward data,to detect wireless information of peripheral devices,to detect link status,and to provide an interface.To realize functions in the design,the module is divided into four components: the link backup component,the device interface component,the information collection component,and the network equipment component.The wireless driver module is designed to realize the MAC layer and the protocol layer in IEEE802.11.Finally,the AUTO-WDS notification module is designed to simplify configuration between the AUTO-WDS module and the wireless driver module.To realize data forwarding in the AUTO-WDS module,an eigenvalue will be added to the 56 th digit of data feature cb element on the L2 protocol stack of the kernel.Therefore,the wireless driver module can identify the source of data and forward the data from a relevant physical port.When realized,the above mentioned modules form the AUTO-WDS link backup system.A function test and a performance test have been conducted to verify if the system meets design requirements.The function test is to verify stability of the system and such function indicators as link anomaly detection time,and the time required to establish a backup link after the wired link is abnormal.The performance test is conducted in the way of a compare test.Performance indicators of AUTO-WDS is compared with those of a traditional WDS with Chariot Throuput scripts to verify if they meet requirements.In the test of the AUTO-WDS backup link system,link anomaly was detected and the optimal backup path was selected within one second after the wired link is abnormal.In the compare test against a traditional WDS,the rate of the system reached the peak value just as a traditional WDS.The AUTO-WDS backup link system achieves the desired results from both function and performance perspectives.
