The technology of satellite image compression has taken increasingly significant places in the days that space science is developing.High-definition and high-fidelity satellite images will need larger storage due to optical sensors that becomes more precise,which requires wider transmission channels.Thus,researches for the technology of satellite image compression are important for the entire satellite image system.In this paper,a simulated satellite image compression system with multipath parallel chips is established,in which the function of satellite image compression is achieved by outputting compressed code after receiving data from simulated source of image.Based on the analysis of demands of function and working rate of satellite image compression system,the system takes JPEG2000 as the image codec standard,and adopts Xilinx Virtex-6 board as the development platform and multipath parallel dedicated image compression chips ADV212 as the codec method.The hardware scheme is designed and the circuit is routed by integrity of signal.In software aspect,the program converts color space of original images and finishes initialization of four chips.It also establishes a round-robin mechanism based on the characteristics of timing and function of compression chips,designs a data dispatch module that controls working states of four chips as well as code stream,and designs a data buffer module that accelerates working rate of image compression system and ensures the transmission of ongoing data flow.Finally,a test of function and rate of image compression system is implemented respectively.The working state of 4-chip image compression system is verified,and compressed code is imaged in upper computer and working rate is compared with single-chip compression system.It proves that the rate of multi-path satellite image compression system is three times of single-path one.Under the premise that subjective visual quality is unaffected,the compression rate is up to 16:1,which saves abundant storage space and channel bandwidth for satellite image transmission system.
