Usability Engineering, represented by American cognitive psychologist Norman and Nielsen,is a kind of advanced development method of interactive IT products/systems.It is an emerging subject which engages in promoting the usability of the interactive products by using structurized method in the process of product development. The research in this paper aims at evaluating the OA system by using theories and methods of usability engineering. On the basis of analyzing the status and latest technique of both domestic and overseas usability engineering, the function and user interface design of OA system in LNTVU shall be tested for usability and then improved,so as to promote the effectiveness, efficiency and user satisfaction of this system. The research in this paper is divided into four steps:first of all,it gets to understand the development history of OA system and analyzes its functions.Second,it makes clear of the OA system ' s users, tasks as well as the environment by using usability engineering to perform background analysis of OA system.Meanwhile,it compares the commonly used usability testing methods, and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages,so as to select the one suitable for the OA system.Third, usability test shall be performed by using the selected testing method.Once any usability problems found, they will be analyzed, and the design shall be revised.Fourth, the iterative test shall be performed on the adapted system,it turns out that the usability of OA system got improved obviously. Therefore, the usability engineering proves to be an effective method in evaluating, adapting as well as improving system usability.
