Wireless sensor network is related to application and require different communication protocols in different scenarios.Routing protocols play an important role as a key communication protocol that affects the performance of wireless sensor networks.Unlike traditional routing mechanisms, opportunistic routing can effectively improve the reliability of data transmission and network throughput by utilizing the broadcast characteristics of wireless channels. However, the design of opportunistic routing protocols still faces many challenges, such as how to choose routing measures and candidate forwarding nodes set,and how to extend network lifetime as long as the reliability of data transmission is ensured.Aiming at wireless meter sensor network with known location and orderly arrangement of sensor nodes,a low energy opportunistic routing protocol GEOR based on geographic location information is designed in this paper.Firstly, the paper analyzes the shortcomings of the traditional routing protocol based on geographic location, and gives the problems to be solved and the challenges that we facing.Aiming at a problem that it is difficult to supplement for node energy,a new routing measure RED is proposed. This measure takes into account the location information and residual energy of nodes. It can transmit data packets to the destination node with smaller number of hops while considering the energy consumption of nodes. At the same time, the forwarding node set is selected on the basis of the route measure. In the late stage of data transmission,in order to make full use of the remaining energy of nodes and prevent unnecessary death of nodes,a node communication range optimization algorithm based on hop number is designed in this paper.By comparing the size between the residual energy of the nodes and the required energy of the transmission data, the algorithm can reduce the communication scope appropriately, and prolong the network life cycle. Finally, based on the MATLAB simulation platform,we compare and evaluate the performance of three routing protocols, such as ExOR,PLOR and GEOR.Performance indicators include node energy balance, network life cycle, and data transmission reliability. The experimental results show that the GEOR protocol designed in this paper can balance the energy consumption of nodes and ensure the reliability of data transmission, thus effectively prolonging the life cycle of network.
