The concept of Internet of Things(IoT)is a hotspot of research and application in recent years, many technologies and proposal of standards have emerged.Among these technologies,Power Line Communication is a special one.It uses electrical wiring to simultaneously carry both data, and electric power. The advantage of PLC is that it utilize the existing infrastructure to carry the communication, there is no need to lay new wires nor to use precious and congesting spectral resource. This makes very promising for applications like smart grid or smart city. This report is about my work at Orange(France Telecom)? As the biggest telecom operator of France,it wants to develop a demonstrator of the Power Line Communication(PLC)technology,to improve its competence on PLC.This work is mainly done by the author of this report. This report documents the works done and the choices made in the development of this demonstrator. After this work was finished,I spent the rest of my internship studying an open source LTE software,Open Air Interface. It can implement a running LTE network on Commercial Off-The-Shelf(COTS)hardware.Orange Labs wants to gain more knowledge of this software in order to use it in future research projects. As an open source software, the documentation of OAI is not very complete nor consistence. So we synthetized documents from various source and conducted some experiments,to figure out how to use this software.More precisely,we focus more on OAIsim,a simulation tool of LTE.This report will start by presenting the Power Line Communication technology and the development of a demonstrator, and then present the study of OAI.
