The Narrative Analysis Of TV Program "Waiting For Me"

CCTV's large-scale public service search program “Waiting for Me” officially launched on April 5,2014,with the help of national forces to build a platform to help ordinary people realize their dreams.Through the use of various narrative techniques,the program group presents the story of the person seeking help,and transmits positive energy to the society.Since the main form of the program is "storytelling",it is actually a popular expression of narrative.Therefore,this study focuses on the “Waiting for Me” from the perspective of narratology.The analysis sample of this study is prime time special program of “Waiting for Me” broadcasted from 2015 to 2017.The research method is case study method and text analysis method.Based on the related theories of narratology,the author constructs the analytical framework of this study.At the level of narrative story,first of all,“Waiting for Me” program forms two kinds of narrative themes on the basis of the motif of “looking for”,that is,“attaching importance to family harmony” and “advocating traditional virtues”,emphasizing the construction of social harmony.In addition,the program use linear narrative structure to ensure the integrity of the narrative story,meanwhile through the use of nonlinear narrative structure,to strengthen the conflict of opposition and enhance the visibility of the program.In the narrative discourse level,first,program narrators are divided into three categories.Among them,the real author is the producer of the program;the implied author is the values transmitted by the real author in the program,that is,the pursuit of “truth,goodness and beauty”;the explicit narrator is played by the suitor,the host of the program and the guest of the group.Second,the main narrative perspective of the program is the internal focus perspective,that is,from the personal point of view of the help seeker to tell the story.The use of external focus and zero focus narrative perspective plays a complementary role to the internal focus narrative.Third,in the narrative time,the program comprehensive uses a variety of narrative timing and narrative time interval,to increase the dramatic effect of narrative,so that narrative rhythm full of rhythmic beauty.Fourth,in terms of narrative symbols,the combination of background music and sound effects can effectively render the atmosphere of the scene;the flexible use of subtitles increases the integrity of narration;the combination of fixed lens and motion lens vividly depicts the external performance,inner activity and mental state of the characters.Based on this,the author summarizes the characteristics of the “Waiting for Me” program in narrative as follows,which can be used as reference to other programs.First,using emotional narration to awake people's yearning for “truth,good and beauty” to increase the authenticity and cultural connotation of the program.Second,attaching importance to the collision of multiple viewpoints,guide the value orientation with rational comments.Third,using narrative structure and narrative symbols to set suspense,increase the visibility of the program.Fourth,it is the core purpose of narration to emphasize repeatedly ‘seeking people for public good' and to contribute to the cause of public welfare.
