Study On Persistence Risk Check For Digital Preservation

Nowadays,we are in the information age,digital resources are the basic conditions for promoting and realizing the comprehensive and sustainable development of social economy.It is very crucial for the sustainable development of science,education,culture and society.Digital resources have six characteristics : availability,identity,persistence,renderability,understandability and authenticity.The purpose of long-term preservation of digital resources is able to use for the user,so it is essential for repository system to guarantee the six functions of digital resources as much as possible.However,the long-term preservation of digital resources is a process which is full of risks.Therefore,in order to reduce the loss as much as possible,it is necessary to find risk points of persistence.The paper mainly focus on persistence of digital resources.If the repository system isn't capable of reaching the desired preservation level of digital object,and once the bitstream of the digital object is destoryed,it can not be recovered;the storage medium expired or is corrupted may lead to the digital object can not be completely readed from the storage medium;the repository system does not execute Event such as Storage Medium Refresh and Virus Check regularly and so on.These factors would bring out the persistence of the digital preservation is destroyed,and the users can not obtain the correct and complete digital objects.Aiming at the persistence of digital resources,this paper designs the persistence risk metadata scheme.Then,analyzing the corresponding check points for the kind of risks.These risk points are used to check potential persistence risks.In the process of research,we collected data from CNKI data base as experimental sample.After that,from multiple dimensions checking the points of persistence risk for the sample set of the digital objects,counting the test results,analyzing the reasons,and formulating the measures to reduce the risks.The innovation of this paper are first design the metadata of the persistence risk,and put forward a method to check the persistence risk.The purpose of this paper is to effectively avoid the persistence risk of digital resources in the long-term preservation process and provide the basis for the sustainable operation of digital preservation projects.
