As the aging phenomenon emerges and new media communication technology develop,more attentions have been paid to the elderly groups.During the period of social transformation,the social stratification and differentiation have been changing people's behavior,life style and value system.Conflicts of identities make social contradictions more obvious.In the meantime,there appear many problems,contradictions and controversial events concerning old people.The hot event concerning the aged occur frequently.At the same time,the media image of the elderly group becomes increasingly broad and blur.As the intermediary of social relations,media plays a guiding role in disseminating social information,guiding public opinion and coordinating social relations.The media's methods to present the group image of the older people affects the audience's attitudes,view towards this elderly.It also influenced the self-awareness and social participation of the elderly.Therefore,it is of great importance to study the media image of the aged group and to discuss how to construct it comprehensively and truly.This study based on the reports of typical hot event concerning the elderly.By combining content analysis and case analysis,this paper analyzes 302 reports in Baidu News search as samples.And then it probes into the present situation of the hot event news concerning the old age provided by the media,discovers the characteristics and problems of the construction of the media image of the old age group,analyzes the causes and proposes improvement strategies on this basis.There are five parts in this article:The first part is the introduction,including research background,significance,concept definition,literature review,research problems,methods and innovation points.The second part combs the hot events concerning the elderly in recent years,selects five typical cases which could arouse the audience's attention and studies thepresent situation of the media according to Baidu Index.The statistics and analysis of data are carried out from seven categories,namely,reporting genre,reporting theme,reporting source,source of press,report form,reporting position and attitude of old people.In the third part,based on the survey and statistics of the variables in the network media about the typical old-age controversial events,the paper probes into the characters and features of the media image of the old people and the problems in the process of transmission.The fourth part discusses the causes of the negative image of the old age group in the hot events concerning the aged from the perspectives of social reality,media reappearance and network public opinion.The last part puts forward some strategic thinking,based on the analysis of the problems and causes of the former,and puts forward the strategic thinking from the government,the media,the public and the experience in foreign reporting,in order to perfect the media image of the elderly group.
