The cultural space is not only the physical place for carrying the city cultural,but also the space for satisfying the consumption demand of the mass culture.As the scale of the city expand,urban cultural space has become an important force in urban personality development and brand building.The cultural space of Kunming in the process of modernization has undergone great changes in the tide of modernity.Under the tremendous changes of the cultural space,people need to use media to know what is happening around them and form the spatial imaginary cognition in their mind.The influence of mass media on cultural space is based on the public's interpretation of news reports and the spatial imagination.Cultural space is an important area of cultural industry research.This research will combine the cultural space with the mass media to discuss how the mass media will influence the cultural space of modern cities through the perspectives of the geography of media and the spatial production theory.And select the old "Cultural Palace",the Green Lake cultural space and the Creative Yunnan Cultural Industry Expo as the example of cultural space.Through the text analysis,the research holds the influence of mass media on urban cultural space in three aspects.The mass media are able to re-construct the missing historical feature of the city through various ways,including signs,pictures,text,or videos.By using these ways,residents are able to construct an imaginative world.Through the interpretation of the cultural connotation of space,people can understand the historical and cultural context of the space which they live in.It has a positive meaning for the cultural transmission.The mass media organize cultural activities in the modern cultural space and report the space to build a cultural space atmosphere.To a certain extent,it can publicize the cultural space,stimulate or guide the cultural consumption,which plays a positive role in the development of cultural industry.The mass media can not construct the cultural space immediately,but the mass media as "the fourth power" can participate in the process of construction and development of cultural space by reporting and forming public opinion.It also play important roles in collective memory retrieval,urban context extension and cultural consumption.These roles make the cultural space develop well in urban modernity and contribute to the sustainable development of the cultural industries.
