Research On Factors Affecting The Usability Of Text Signal Navigation System

With the rapid growth of massive digital document resources and the increasing open of access methods,as well as the gradual development of fragmentation of shallow reading habits of readers,it has challenged the knowledge workers to efficiently and continuously read long documents with multiple themes.Text signal navigation system can not only help knowledge workers to efficiently browse,read and understand a large number of documents,but also offset the exclusion of the knowledge workers for the continuous deep reading long document.Text signal navigation system is designed to meet the needs of the readers,and the usability of the system is extremely critical for the readers.However,there are many studies on the factors affecting the usability of various systems or websites.But text signal navigation system,as a widely used within-document assisted reading system,aims to promote the readers' understanding of the document content,few people have targeted the study on the factors affecting the usability of text signal navigation system.So,to improve the reading effectiveness and efficiency of the readers and promote to carry out the work of reading service,this paper is devoted to study what factors affect the usability of the text signal navigation system.Based on the previous research and theoretical analysis,this paper put forward the research model and hypothesis on the factors affecting the usability of text signal navigation system,combined with the factors such as text signal navigation type,readers' domain knowledge and task complexity from the perspective of readers'understanding of text content,and then conducted an experiment to verify the research model and hypothesis.In the experiment,the experimental subjects were recruited from Wuhan University,two text signal navigation systems(BOOKMARK and THC-DAT)as experimental platform were used to carry out the user experiment.The experimental platform recorded the operational data through the log file,the subjects' subjective data was obtained through the questionnaire.According to the data analysis results,the proposed hypothesis was verified,and then the research model was corrected.Finally,the research results and research inspiration were discussed and summarized.The research model and the research conclusions of the factors affecting the usability of text signal navigation system in this paper had a certain theoretical and practical value to better meet the readers' reading needs and design more reasonable and efficient text signal navigation system.
