Women's Consciousness In Media And Its Problem

Nowadays,female athletes are no longer excluded from the Olympic Games,and they have access like male athletes to participating in all the events,including the boxing match that has been a restricted area to female athletes.Mass media reports on female athletes compared with the past has been quietly changed,showing that the number of reports on female athletes is increasing,the themes of reports on female athletes is becoming diverse,and the reporting way is flexible.However,does this indicate that female athletes'diminished and marginalized status in media coverage has changed?The article is to take the news reports on female athletes during the 2016 Rio Olympic for example,analyzing the news reports on female athletes from a perspective of women's consciousness.to discuss these issues:What media frame and discourse system are constructed in Chinese media and the United States media?What is presented about female athletes in new?What kind of female consciousness does the media report on female athletes?And how women's consciousness is covered in the news of female athletes?The study found that Chinese media and American media have constructed four issues,including female athletes' sports achievements,private feelings,sports right and the rules of the game.And there is a problem on deviation and shelter of women's consciousness,that is,stereotyping female athletes,female athletes' individual value sheltered by national interest,and ignoring their career development both in Chinese media and American media.But the difference is that Chinese tends to strengthen the female athlete gender stereotypes obviously while American media in a implicit way,and Chinese media tends to make female athletes masculine,and not cover female athletes' physiological period,while there is no gender divide as American media tends to cover female athletes.The differences between Chinese media and American media in female athletes news reports,on the one hand,is from the diversity of female's subject status in the movement of women's consciousness awareness,that is,Chinese women rely mainly on male elites or national power to promote the awakening of female consciousness,the United States women play the role of the main force and leader in women's liberation movement from beginning to end.On the other hand,due to the differences in the historical situation,that is,the Chinese women were in a long feudal patriarchal society with strong sense of male power,the awakening of Chinese women's consciousness is swallowed in the national liberation and social reform movement,the United States women are deeply affected by the European Enlightenment,and develop systematic feminist theories from the women's liberation movement,promoting the awareness of women's consciousness.
