Being as a positive personality owned by an individual,positive mentality claims to explore positive factors existed in an individual,which tries to motivate the positive energy and excellent quality inside.Then it is able to regulate the individual's cognition and emotion,which is quite meaningful for middle school students who are being developed rapidly but unstably.In accordance with the ecological system theory and previous studies,family education,an environment variable,might affect students' academic performance by individual characteristics.This paper studies middle school students,by which it discusses the relationship between positive mentality and students' academic performance under the influence of family environment.Besides,this paper analyzes middle school students' positive mentality in terms of that how it plays as an intermediate between parental rearing and academic performance.Depending on two tools--s-EMBU-c(a brief questionnaire of parental rearing)and the positive mental characters scale for Chinese school students,this paper studied 348 middle school students,found that:1.For middle school students,their parents hold a positive rearing method and the mother's rearing plays a leading role in the family.Compared with the non-only child,only child is more likely to refuse the father;compared with Grade 9 students,Grade 7 students get more warmth from the mother;compared with non-resident students,resident students get more warmth from the father and they are less likely to refuse the father.2.Generally,middle school students has their positive mentality developed highly but unevenly.The best developed aspects include surmounting,human relation and bravery while the worst developed aspects include wisdom and knowledge,abstinence and justice.Compared with Grade 9 students,Grade 7 students have their positive mentality developed better.3.Generally,middle school students whose academic performance.4.For parental rearing,the emotional warmth has a significant positive correlation with positive mentality and academic performance;refusal has a significant negative correlation with positive mentality and academic performance;over protection has no significant correlation with positive mentality and academic performance;positive mentality has a significant positive correlation with academic performance.5.Middle school students' positive mentality plays as an intermediate between parental rearing and academic performance.Positive mentality plays as an partial mediation among father's emotional warmth,father's refusal,mother's warmth and academic performance;positive mentality plays as a complete intermediate between mother's refusal and academic performance.Conclusion: Middle school students' positive mentality plays as an intermediate between parental rearing and academic performance,father's emotional warmth,father's refusal and mother's emotional warmth can directly affect the academic performance,which can also indirectly affect academic performance via the influence to middle school students' positive mentality.Mother's refusal can directly affect academic performance via the influence to middle school students' positive mentality.By rational rearing method,parents can help to well develop middle school students' positive mentality and improve their academic performance.
