With the rapid development and progress of social economy,people start to rethink the meaning of education,and come up with many new educational ideas and methods.Among these,the concept of the core competencies has been proposed and soon becomes the key point of worldwide concern.Chinese educational circle gets a deep influence on the international circumstances,and the ministry of education highly pay attention to the development of the core competencies,university's scholars also have a thorough and detailed discussion.Our country combines the core competencies of each subject with teaching curriculum,which makes the importance of core competencies plays a more important part in school life.The subject of geography plays a major role in junior high school teaching process.As one of the core competencies in geography teaching,the importance of competency of regional cognition speaks to itself.Under the guidance of the concept of geography core competencies,the author deeply explored the concept and connotation of regional cognitive literacy,cleared the importance of regional cognitive training in junior high school,made a survey of junior high school geography teaching,and questionnaire survey and interview were conducted to students and teachers respectively.Some researches were made by combining with the problems in the development of regional cognitive processes.The author analyzed the problems in the development of regional cognition,came up with the specific strategies which suit the development of junior high school students.What's more,a classroom example was given to testify the effectiveness of the strategy.This research includes six chapters:the first part is introduction,which tells the background knowledge of junior high school students' regional cognitive development home and abroad,the general introduction of the content,meaning and research methods.The second part is the explanation and distinction of related concepts and some theoretical research fundamentals.This includes the concept of core competencies,the concept of geography core competencies and the basic concept of regional cognitive literacy and so on.The theoretical basis includes the Multi Intelligence theory,the Humanism theory,Constructivism and the geography teaching theory.The third part is questionnaire.The author makes some deep surveys and interviews with teachers and students separately and makes a thorough analysis towards the questionnaire.The fourth part is the analysis of the present situation based on the questionnaire and interviews.The fifth part is the development strategy of junior high school students' cognitive literacy.The author will come up with some specific and feasible methods from different angles.There is the teaching design based on the research and students' conditions.Japan in Grade 7 is given as an example.The six part is the conclusion and expectations of this research.
