Education determines the future of a country and nation,especially the compulsory education,which is the basis of the entire national education system and is related to the long-term development of the country.With the decline of the birth rate,the increase of children with migrant workers,and the policy of withdrawing and merging rural schools has made the number of rural students decreased,and more and more rural schools have shown a “small scale”.Bashang area is sparsely populated,with poor natural conditions and backward economic development,which made the development of small-scale schools in rural areas more difficult.In order to understand the current difficulties of rural small-scale schools in Zhangjiakou Bashang area,this study selected four small-scale schools in Zhangbei,Kangbao,Guyuan and Shangyi country as the object of study,and adopts the methods of interview,questionnaire and observation survey to conduct field investigation and research on the sample schools.According to the analysis and survey results,currently,there are some problems in the process of running rural small-scale schools in Bashang area of Zhangjiakou: the decrease of students,the service radius is too large,management difficulty increases,special groups are concentrated,and the large proportion of left-behind children;the teaching staff is weak,the structure of teachers’ age,gender is unbalanced,the teaching staff has low educational background,unreasonable major,poor treatment and serious loss.The school has backward conditions and low utilization rate of facilities and equipment;Lax teaching management,incomplete curriculum,backward teaching methods,the lack of activities and other issues.Through the analysis of the current situation and existing problems of small-scale schools in Bashang area,it is found that the main reasons for the current problems are: the harsh natural environment and remote geographical location;the acceleration of urbanization,the backwardness of regional economy,and the shift of regional work focus,the distribution and unreasonable allocation of founds;the concept of self-education is backward,and the management of the education administrative department is lagging behind.Therefore,we should pay attention to the rural economic and social development of rural areas on the Bashang,the development of small-scale schools;We should optimize the rational allocation of educational funds,improve the efficiency of fund use,pay attention to the overall construction of schools,and strengthen supervision and management.We should strengthen the training of principals and administrators,improve the school’s internal management system,build a win-win alliance between urban and rural schools,and establish a social participation mechanism.We should strengthen the construction of teachers,strengthen the on-the-job training of teachers,increase the preferential treatment to teachers in special posts in rural areas,improve the teacher mobility mechanism,and improve the overall level of teachers.
