Research On Pan Guangdan's Sports Ideology

Mr.Pan Guangdan(1899-1967),a famous scholar in modern China,who has a wide range of subjects and abundant academic achievements,which makes great contributions to the academia in the middle of the twentieth Century.His rich academic works involve the humanities and Social Sciences,eugenics,pedagogy and ethnology,which also contains some articles and commentaries about the development of Chinese modern sports.The author mainly takes Pan Guangdan's sports ideology as the main research object.This paper aims to comb,summarize and analyze the historical origins,main contents,limitations and revelations of Pan Guangdan's sports ideology by using the method of literature,historical analysis,comparative analysis and logical reasoning.The main contents of Pan Guangdan's sports ideology have four aspects.First,the concept of sports culture.he puts forward the“adjustment education theory”,which can be applied to solving various social problems.The development of the Chinese and western cultures should tend to the best dynamical equilibrium.Chinese cultures should wholeheartedly,selectively employ western cultures.Second,the concept of healthy nation.He explains the connotation of national health from a scientific point of view.He criticizes the national diseases that affect the health of the nation.He hopes to shape the healthy nation by taking exercises.Third,the view of school physical education.He insists on promoting the education of general education and the whole personality education ideology,in order to cultivate all-round people.He opposesthe competition transformation in school education,and advocates the widespread and scientific education.He advocates the implementation of the education of differentiation between men and women according to the difference between the physical and mental conditions of them.Fourth,the concept of athletic talent.Athletic talent and heredity have a great relationship.Athletic talent can not change with the change of environment.Athletic talent can be cultivated through prepotency.The historical significance of Pan Guangdan's sports ideology include four aspects.The first is to promote the integration of Chinese and Western sports cultures.The second is to facilitate the development of modern sports.The third is to motivate the development of modern school sports.The fourth is to expedite the scientific development of modern women's physical education.It is obvious that Pan Guangdan sports thought also has certain limitations.For example,the function of eugenics is overemphasized in sports speech.The modern values of Pan Guangdan' s sports ideology can be divided into three aspects.First is the balanced development of competitive sports and school sports in school education.As a part of school sports development,competitive sports should be integrated with school physical education and form a mutually promoting relationship.The second is to carry forward the concept of national fitness and build a healthy China.People develop the consciousness of national fitness,and create a positive national spirit.The third is to blend and share world cultures.In the increasingly rich society of globalization,people should stick to the social conditions of the country and absorb Western culture selectively.
