Nowadays,with the rapid development of science and technology,science education is becoming more and more important and has attracted people's attention.The new curriculum standard indicates that the learning of elementary science courses is conducive to cultivating students' scientific literacy,innovative spirit,and practical ability.Good science education in primary school can lay a good scientific literacy and innovation ability for the new citizens in the future,and it will play an important role in promoting the development of China's science and technology and the improvement of comprehensive national strength.At present,the school conditions for science education in our country have been greatly improved.However,some problems and difficulties remain to be solved in resource construction and teachers development in the process of running a school,which restrict the sound and sustainable development of science education in primary schools in China.Shapingba District is an important cultural area of science and education in Chongqing.Thus,it is of great practical significance and reference value to study the primary school science education in this area.Questionnaires,interviews,and other research methods were used in this study.Under the guidance of experts,with reference to the questionnaires of other scholars,our questionnaires were prepared and tested according to the actual situation in Shapingba District of Chongqing.Data collected was analyzed by using SPSS19.0 software.And all these were done in order to investigate the status quo of primary school science education in Shapingba District from teachers,students,and administrators aspects.We chose 8 representative primary schools in this district as the survey objects,where we issued a total of 320 student questionnaires and received 291 valid ones.Besides,33 questionnaires for elementary school science teachers in Shapingba District and 2 interviews for principals were collected.This survey reflected the existing strengths and weaknesses of science education in primary school in Shapingba District,Chongqing.First of all,the hardware facilities can basically meet the requirements,but there is still a large gap between the schools.Although some good schools are equipped with laboratories,the experimental materials are insufficient,and some ordinary schools are not even equipped with special science classrooms and lack of experimental equipment.There is also a difference among schools in the degree of importance attached to the science curriculum,which directly affects the pupils' interest in learning science and the cultivation of innovative abilities.Secondly,science teachers are currently the bottleneck of development.Although some of them are of high academic qualifications,science teachers are seriously insufficient and unprofessional.This disadvantage is more obvious in ordinary primary schools.The lack of teachers directly affects the quality of science education and the development of students' innovative inquiry capabilities.In addition,the lack of family education in science education also makes a difference in the improvement of students' comprehensive scientific literacy.These findings provide a realistic basis for the further development of primary school science education in Shapingba District.We believe that the development of science education requires the formation of a joint force between the state,the school,and the family.The state needs to legislate for science education,and equip these schools with sufficient teachers and hardware facilities.And the government of various regions should further improve the relevant training for the professional development of science teachers.Schools should learn from each other in cooperation to form complementary advantages,and develop resources within the school,as well as integrate the surrounding resources to extend science learning.Scientific teachers also need to acquire knowledge and experience to constantly improve their teaching.Both schools and families should pay more attention to science courses.Parents need to give support from their ideas and actions to form positive interactions.
