With the promulgation of the latest Curriculum Standards of Senior Middle School in 2017,scholars of Physics education focus on students' Capabilities of physics modeling once again.Physical modeling ability is one of the key skills that need to be cultivated in physics teaching.It is inevitable to measure or evaluate students' physical modeling ability if teachers want to figure out the methods of cultivating this ability.It is not appropriate to use the traditional physics level test to evaluate the physical modeling ability.Only by observing students' performance in the modeling process can we evaluate the level of students' physical modeling ability correctly.Firstly,through the literature research related to the physics modeling ability,this paper establishes the influencing factors of physical modeling ability and forms an attitude scale based on these factors.Through researching on in-service physics teachers and exploratory factor analysis,we get five components of physical modeling capabilities: the ability of model validation and adjustment,the using of physics knowledge,the level of physics and cognition of model,the ability of theoretical calculation and the ability of observation and comprehension.Secondly,according to the levels of physical concept and scientific cogitation in Curriculum Standards of Senior Middle School of Physics in 2017,I set up the levels of physical modeling ability of high school students.Then,based on the composition and levels of modeling capabilities,a two-way specification table of ability assessment is developed.Several test questions are made out to form a test for high school students' physical modeling capabilities.By statistical analysis of the results of the sample of students,we find that the scores of each part modeling capabilities and the total test scores were positively correlated to students' achievements,which proves that the structural components of physical modeling capability is credible and methods in this study is self-consistent.At last,some strategies for cultivating the physical modeling ability of senior high school students have been proposed according to the conclusions of statistical analysis.
