Gender role is the psychological tendencies and behavior patterns of the men and women of both sexes that the society expects and stipulate.It is rooted in social culture and embodies social culture.Language is the carrier of culture,language textbook is condensed culture.It has important influence on the acquisition of students' gender roles,especially for the primary school students which are at the critical stage of their personality development.With the promotion of the national common language,the Chinese textbooks for primary schools by Xinjiang Education Press in Xinjiang will also have an impact on the acquisition of gender roles of Uygur pupils and the overall healthy development of their bodies and minds.Based on the above and use for reference from previous achievements,this research analyzes the relevant contents of 12 volumes of Protestant Chinese textbooks in grades 1 to 6 first,the results show that there is a certain degree of gender bias in textbooks.As follows:(1)The male characters in the illustrations in the text are obviously more than those of the female characters,and the frequency of the sexes as the protagonist is very different.(2)The male social image is richer than the female,makes more contributions and the professions is wider but the female image is engaged in the traditional gender occupation.(3)In the description of gender characters,there is obvious traditional gender role mark and the male character is more positive.(4)The authors' gender selected into the texts are asymmetric.In view of the result,a self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the sixth grade students in the X ethnic primary school.It is founds that the gender bias in the textbook has a certain influence on the students.Further analysis reveals,gender bias is not only harmful for students' gender role identity and overall healthy growth but also leads to the solidification and continuation of gender bias.In the end,this research calls for the elimination of gender bias in textbooks and the creation of a comprehensive and free development space for students,measures should be take such as national intervention and policy guarantee,standardized compilation and verification of textbooks and cooperation between schools,teachers and family education.
