STEM education is the abbreviation of four key words:Science,Technology,Engineer and Mathematics.As a new education mode which is interdisciplinary and comprehensive,STEM education embodies the concept which is focused on“developing ability" among the concepts in the new curriculum reform.The purpose of STEM education is to solve problems relating to STEM problems or the real problems in the actual life by using learning method including inquiry learning,project learning and question-based learning in order to stimulate students' learning interests in Science,Technology and Engineer,build up and develop students' STEM literacy and eventually realize the ambition of developing innovative talents for the country.STEM literacy mainly refers to the general performance relating to knowledge,thought,ability and attitude that one possess when he or she is solving STEM problems.As one of the important training objectives in STEM education,STEM literacy is also one of the important factors that affect students' creativity in solving practical problems.In the teaching practice based on STEM concept,the designed teaching activities should give full expression to STEM education and let students complete the exploration and manufacture independently so that students' STEM literacy can be developed furthest.This paper first puts forward the need of our country for STEM talents and the necessity to carry out STEM education,and then it clears up the achievements in regard to STEM at home and abroad as well as defines and explains the concepts of STEM education,STEM literacy and teaching mode using documentary method.In actual interviews and surveys,the author chooses some students and teachers in a certain middle school in Yan ji to conduct questionnaire survey and interview respectively,which shows that STEM concept has not been used perfectly into Chemistry teaching in this school.Based on that current situation,this paper analyzes the purpose and characteristics of Chemistry Teaching in middle school based on the STEM education concept,and combines the unique method under the concept of STEM,constructs a STEM teaching model which belongs to the chemistry subject,and expounds each link in the model.Finally,it takes "water purification" as an example for teaching design and applies it to the teaching practice to verify its feasibility.It is proved by the statistics of the questionnaire survey of "The Level of STEM Literacy Based on Chemistry subject" and the students' interview that teaching activities in middle school based on STEM concept,to a certain degree,can enhance students' STEM literacy and increase their interests in learning Chemistry.
