BACKGROUND:With the rapid development of information technology and information industry, people's demand of information utilization and retrieval increases.Nowadays, the world is featured by cyberization and informatization, information retrieval ability affects personal social competence,Strong ability of information discovery and retrieval is helpful for us to better adapt to society. The information seeking self-efficacy has the most important influence on information retrieval ability.Self efficacy is defined in psychology,it was proposed by the famous American psychologist Bandura in 1977,referring to the extent or strength of one's belief in one's own ability to complete tasks and reach goals.Since 80's of last century,self-efficacy theory has been constantly enriched and developed in the support of a large number of empirical research,it has been applied to various disciplines of the field of practice, such as management science, education, medicine and so on.Of course it has achieved fruitful results. However, there are few self-efficacy researches in the teaching of information retrieval and management, especially in the domestic.Self-efficacy on information search refers to people's evaluation on their ability to organize and carry out specific information retrieval behavior, higher self-efficacy on information search has decisive meaning for successful information retrieval. For the user of medical universities, effectiveness of information search will directly affect students, academic experience and achievements, help to improve the ability of medical scientific research and personal development in the future. So it is very necessary to study methods and strategies to improve medical students' information seeking before and after the course.Nowadays, search of electronic information resources has become an important part of students' scientific research, many colleges and universities, especially medical universities have incorporated information retrieval course into the daily teaching and students are required to master the basic methods and skills of information retrieval.Universities have taken a variety of ways to teach, but sometimes the effect is not ideal. Therefore, satisfaction survey on information retrieval course about teaching mode, scheduling is important aspect to improve medical college students' information retrieval ability and information search self-efficacy.PURPOSE:In this study, the sample are undergraduate students in the Southern Medical University.Through the investigation of students' learning motivation and self-efficacy before and after retrieval courses,we aimed at mastering students'mental state, knowing about their knowledge level and ability of information query, finding the changes of information search self-efficacy,analyzing the factors influencing the changes, investigating whether self-efficacy on information search is related to attitude of college students accessing information retrieval skills, learning ability and habits, surrounding environment, negative emotions and retrieval results. Then we carried on the surveys on information retrieval satisfaction, explored students'favorite class form and course content, thus put forward feasible ways of cultivating and improving students' information seeking self-efficacy before and after class,at the same time,we provided a reasonable reference for construction of information retrieval courses, information retrieval education of college students and consulting service. Methods:Reviewing previous information search self-efficacy,on the basis of related research,we sent questionnaires in the classroom and network teaching center of the Southern Medical University and Shunde Campus to college students who take retrieval courses, using self-administered questionnaires. We asked them to use their numbers instead of names, only when the same number of a student's questionnaires before and after class were recycled,it was the ultimate recycling questionnaire.Problems in the questionnaire are designed of closed questions, divided into radio and multiple-choice question.Questionnaire before class involves two parts, status of students' using electronic resources in our school, focusing on students using Internet, the frequency of electronic resources;another is information search self-efficacy scale before class, the scale contains student's information search self-efficacy and attitude of electronic information retrieval skills.Questionnaire after class includes three aspects, the first is students' electronic resource usage after class;second is information search self-efficacy scale after class, the scale includes information query self-efficacy,attitude of access to information retrieval skills, learning ability and habits, surrounding environment, negative emotions during the exam, use frequency of electronic resources and information retrieval results;third is views about the information retrieval course of students and satisfaction survey for information retrieval course.Data of effective questionnaires will be entried in Epidata3.0,analysis of survey is analyzed by SPSS13.0,the statistical methods include descriptive analysis,T test, correlation analysis. In this study,we use alpha = 0.01,p<0.01 as a significant standard to carry on the research to the questionnaire data.RESULTS:1.The information retrieval course has improved medical college students' information search self-efficacy;2.These students' self-efficacy may be higher:students who use electronic resources more frequently;have more positive attitude for access to information retrieval techniques, have better learning ability and habits of themselves.3.The environment does not affect college students'self-efficacy;4.When students search information, who experienced more negative emotions would reduce their self-efficacy;5.Information search performance degree of medical college students will be improved by self-efficacy.CONCLUSIONS:1.Information retrieval course has changed the way of students'information search behavior;2.Students' searching behavior and activities are essential to maintain and improve the information search self-efficacy;3.After carrying out information retrieval course, college students' ability of information retrieval and search self-efficacy has obviously improved;4.Self-efficacy based on the retrieval operation and emotional experience is more likely to affect students'searching behavior and results;5.Information retrieval course has improved students'attitude to retrieval skills, its extent is on attitude, negative emotions, learning ability and habits, information retrieval results and changes. In short, information retrieval course is an important role in improving students'information search self-efficacy and information searching ability. We need to start from the factors of influencing the information search self-efficacy to improve students' information search self-efficacy.As information retrieval course teachers, they have to improve the teaching modes, course content based on the influenced factors, thus cultivate and improve college students' information literacy.Library reference librarians should not blindly to help college students solve all the problems, they should provide the reference consulting service from improving their own ability to solve problems. Thus, the librarians are not so busy with solving the problem of students' most basic electronic searching problems. The improvement of information search self-efficacy is conducive to help students keep enthusiasm for information retrieval and solve various problems in information retrieval, but not just want to depend on the book, the course or the librarians.
