The article analyzes the current status of college students’ information retrieval course practice and many problems exist, including school leaders pay not enough attention so that courses development in fatigue; weak teachers, subject teachers quality of information is non-compliance; the way of course carrying out is single and boring, positive enthusiasm of student learning is not high; the course stage level is not clear, and not associated to major associated very much, lack of targeted; pay more attention to theory and less practice, especially neglect the importance to carry out teaching practice outside the classroom; relevant departments of the universities could not be good coordination and cooperation, lack of standardized and unified top-down organized leadership mechanisms; University Library is not able to give full participate using its the absolute advantage:existing talent, resources, equipment and environment to promote the course carrying out; compared to the United States and Britain and other developed countries, China has not yet Higher Education Information Literacy Competency Standards for the development of uniform, the industry could not form the goal of reunification of the Information Literacy Education system thus affecting to the effect of the information retrieval courses carrying out and so on. Then the text analyses the necessary of the practice research on information retrieval.
