Memetic Comparison Between Chinese And Vietnamese Internet Catchphrases

Internet catchphrase is a language form widely used by internet users in a specific period.With the popularity of the internet,internet catchwords,nowadays have been from the network world into real life and become a cultural phenomenon.From the perspective of Memetics,this paper investigates the mechanism of copying and spreading of Chinese and Vietnamese internet catchphrases.This paper calls each internet word a meme,and holds that the popular catchphrases on the internet are strong memes.Based on the classification of internet catchphrases and the qualitative analysis of memetics,the memetics of internet catchphrases can be divided into figure and punctuation memes,phonemes memetics,word memetics and sentence memetics.By comparing the classification and transmission of memes in Chinese and Vietnamese internet catchphrases,indications point out that the most significant difference between them is the character memes,and there are also some differences between the phonemes and the sentence memes.In this paper,the mode of meme transmission of internet catchphrases is summarized as genotype transmission and phenotype transmission.Through the comparison of Chinese and Vietnamese internet catchphrases,it is found that the most common factor is the memes of genotype transmission,and the memes of the same information transmitted by genotype all come from English abbreviations There are many expressive models of Chinese catchphrases,including transversal grafting of same sound with different meanings,same form association and grafting,same structure with different contents,while Vietnamese catchphrases have only the latter two.On this basis,we further explain the causes of the generality and difference of Chinese andVietnamese internet catchphrases.It is mainly influenced by language difference,cultural and social factors,internet users’ psychological motivation and mass media attitudes.This paper sorts out the development and evolution of internet catchphrases in two different language environments,Chinese and Vietnamese,and compares the similarities and differences in the types and transmission mechanisms of internet catchphrases in the two countries,this paper also discusses the relationship between language and society,culture,media and so on,which provides a new perspective for the Comparative Study of Chinese and Vietnamese languages.
