Listening Comprehension Obstacles And Coping Strategies Order In Arabic-Chinese Consecutive Interpretation

The process of interpretation is divided into several steps,and the most critical step is listening comprehension.If the interpreter fails to grasp the main information of the source language during the interpretation process,this will reduce the completeness and accuracy of the interpretation.It will affect the listeners’ evaluation of the interpreter’s performance,so improving listening comprehension is the top priority.As the case study based on the mock conference of Xi Jinping’s speech at “Belt and Road” forum in 2017,During the consecutive interpreting process,the interpreter faced some listening comprehensions obstacles,which lead to errors in interpretation and missed interpretation.Therefore,the author will use this issue to conduct a research.This thesis will use the definition of consecutive interpreting,the characteristics of consecutive interpretation,the importance of consecutive interpreting listening comprehension,and the hearing barriers caused by language skills such as professional terminology,idioms,pronunciation and intonation and logical relationship of language.The hearing barriers caused by nonverbal factors such as: lack of cultural knowledge,environmental and psychological factors,and then analyze and provide coping strategies.In order to help the interpreter to avoid listening comprehension obstacles and convey the meaning of the source language as much as possible.
