Causes Of Listening Comprehension Obstacles And Coping Strategies In Consecutive Interpretation

For interpreters,listening and comprehension is always the first step to be taken,and it is also the part that is extremely problematic.Listening and interpreting is different from listening,in that listening and interpreting involves receiving information in the source language,processing it in the brain,and then expressing it fluently and completely in the translated language.Due to the difference in language habits between the source language and the translated language,word-by-word translation in most cases not only fails to convey the meaning of the speaker,but may even result in obvious"translation accent" or mistranslation,so we believe that it is necessary to analyze the mistranslation,omission or misrepresentation in the interpretation output from the perspective of listening comprehension.In particular,the author encountered many problems with listening comprehension in this mock conference,resulting in poor and inaccurate translation output.This report will discuss the causes of the problems,their manifestations and strategies for dealing with them.The speech of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the general debate of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly was held on 10 May,and the original text was about 18 minutes and 30 seconds long,divided into eight paragraphs,and the length of the translation was 15 minutes and 20 seconds.Before the session,the author consulted Lavrov’s previous speeches to get to know his speech habits,and learnt that Lavrov had expressed Russia’s views on hot issues in the world and the general situation at the UN General Assembly on many occasions.
