As the forefront of language teaching and culture communication,the Confucius Institutes provide them lots of opportunities on getting closer to this unknown country.However,as one of the teachers in Confucius Institute who has six-year experience on teaching Chinese for foreign students overseas,the author has found that culture stereotype is acting as a double-edged sword and having a big impact,positive or negative,on teaching Chinese for foreign students in Confucius Institutes overseas.In order to explore in depth the effect of culture stereotype on teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Confucius institute overseas,this paper initially introduces some concepts and features about ontology,such as redefining culture stereotype based on collecting and analyzing existed definitions;classifying culture stereotype from different criterions;analyzing its features and the facts for providing the theoretical basis for subsequent research.Secondly,various research methods have been adopted such as having interview with some students studying Chinese in China and in Confucius Institutes aboard and some teachers who have experience in Confucius Institute aboard and design the experiment with the students of Mzuzu international academy as the participants.By using the methods of observation,statistical analysis and questionnaire,the relevant conclusions can be reached as following: 1.The effects are different in different periods.2.The culture stereotype is dynamically changing in the entire process.3.Teacher can make direct influence on forming a type of culture stereotype because of the identity advantage.4.Culture stereotype can make a big impact,positive or negative,on students' learning interest,attitude and enthusiasm.On the basis of the ontology research about culture stereotype and result of the investigation stated above,the paper elaborates the effects in details which are supported by real cases as well.Second but not the last,the author puts forward some constructive strategies from following aspects: facing and utilizing culture stereotype properly,training consciousness of teachers and improving the general quality of teachers for probably offering help.
