A Report On The E-C Translation Of Contract For The Improvement Of Water Services Program In Mombasa County (Section Ⅵ)

The translation practice report is based on the contract document of the Improvement of Water Services Program in Western Mombasa County,Kenya,which the translator and other translators cooperated in translating.The sixth chapter is selected as the translation practice material,and is mainly used to introduce the engineering requirements.The purpose of translation is to make the readers of the translation,that is,Chinese engineers and front-line construction personnel,familiar with the general situation of the project,and master the general situation of the construction area,so as to guide the planning and implementation of the project.The purpose of this type of text is information transmission and explanation,so the translator needs to convey the original information accurately,so that the target text can achieve the communicative purpose.By analyzing specific cases,the translator uses Vermeer’s Skopos theory to guide the implementation of this translation,summarizes and discusses the common features and difficulties of contract translation,as well as the problems that need to be paid attention to in translation.The report is divided into five parts: the first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the background information,sources and significance of the translation;the second chapter is the introduction of translation project,which includes the analysis of the text characteristics of the translation materials and the requirements of the entrusting party;the third chapter is the translation process,which consists of three parts,pre-translation preparation,translation implementation and post-translation feedback.It mainly introduces the pre-translation related preparation,translation process and post-translation review.The fourth chapter is the main part of the article,and analyzes the examples under the guidance of the Skopos theory.This part analyzes the characteristics of contract text from vocabulary and sentence.By analyzing the technical terms,modal verbs,synonyms and archaic words in engineering contracts,this part summarizes the characteristics of the main words used,and puts forward translation methods and skills.In the aspect of sentence,it mainly analyzes the features of the two types of sentence pattern: complex sentences and passive sentences,andsummarizes the relevant translation skills.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizing the whole translation practice,pointing out the shortcomings and improving measures.
