This thesis is a report on the translation of the supervision contract from Chinese to English in the field of information system. It chooses the contract signed by the Public Security Bureau of Linyi County and Shanxi Mingxing Information Engineering Supervision Co. Ltd. as the translation text. This text belongs to an informative text. Its main function is to deliver information, in addition, it has certain writing norms and language features. Therefore, on the basis of the translation task, on the premise of the language features of the contract and with the aim of accurately conveying information, the writer analyzes the word choices in order to achieve accurate, precise and standard translation.As to this report, the author firstly makes the brief introduction on the translation task and analyzes the language characteristics of Chinese and English only to find these characteristics are mainly showed on vocabulary, which paves the way for the case analysis in chapter four. Secondly, the author describes the process of this translation. From this, the translator learns that sufficient preparation before the translation is always the vital prelude to this process. As it extends in this process, understanding is the basis, then followed by the first translation. After that, repeated proofreading and polishing turn out to be necessary. Finally, the final script will be delivered to the client for check and acceptance. Then, the author discusses the choice of the words in this supervision contract mainly from five aspects such as accurate understanding of the words, standard use of the terminologies, proper delivery of mood, moderate use of series of synonyms and proper use of special adverbs. In such a contract context, the translator takes effort to achieve faithful, accurate, expressive and smooth translation in this task. Finally, the author reaps a lot from this rewarding translation practice. However, it’s a pity that the author hasn’t used computer assisted translation, which results in redundant work and efficiency decrease during the translation.
