| This thesis is a project report on translation of the extracts from How Language Began: The Story of Humanity’s Greatest Invention,written by Daniel L.Everett.The book was published in 2017 and its Chinese version is expected to be published by CITIC Press by early 2020.Unlike common linguistics books,this book does not only talk about abstract theory.The author Daniel Everett draws inspiration from various disciplines while interpreting the theory.The author starts from the rise of Hominins and attempts to explore the development of language in the process of human evolution by combining anthropology,linguistics,cognitive science,paleo-neurology,archaeology,biology,neuroscience and primatology.Therefore,a large number of terms in various disciplines are inevitable in translation,which is the priority for the translation project.This report is composed of four chapters.Chapter One is an overview of the project,covering a brief introduction to the book along with the author,and the reasons why this book has been chosen.Chapter Two reports the whole translation process from translation preparations to creating translation project,and finally to the step of post-editing and project submission,during which the encountered problems,solutions and adopted translation tools are elaborated,assisted by proper figures.In Chapter Three,representative cases of term translation and verification,human translation modification and mono-lingual revision and refinement along with corresponding analyses are presented from the perspective of acceptability and translation techniques.And the last part,Chapter Four summarizes the experience in completing the translation project,expecting to provide suggestions for other peers who intend to translate text with similar features. |
