| With the development of TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) throughout the world, more and more foreigners turn to it for help, the growing demand from overseas hastens the process of its translation work. However, due to the unique theories, complicated language and multidisciplinary of TCM, it is very hard to translate it accurately and effectively. This paper tries to analyze the language features and translation difficulties of TCM and summarize the experience and gains of the author through this translation practice.The author has participated in a lot of TCM translation work during the internship based on her interests and years’ studies in it. This paper selects TCM Service Project as the report object of translation practice to make an analysis on TCM translation. Under the guidance of Newmark’s text typology theory, this author analyzed the characteristics of TCM language, culture and its medical system, she then further defined the TCM Service Project as both an informative text and a vocative one with an emphasis on informative function. By combining the experience summarized by domestic and overseas scholars for TCM translation, the author adopted the translation principles of conciseness, natural equivalence, ethnic characteristics and translation techniques of transliteration and annotation, omission and amplification, paraphrasing to solve the problems in the translation process with specific examples. Furthermore, this report also discusses the domain knowledge translators should possess in dealing with the interdisciplinary translation task, which mainly focuses on two aspects: how to acquire and accumulate the specialized knowledge so as to ensure an accurate understanding of the original information; how to guarantee the accuracy, the readability and acceptability of the version by choosing proper translation techniques and principles. This report wishes to offer referential value of how to grasp the original information and selecting strategies for the TCM translators. |
