| The translation material of this report is excerpted from The Persuasive Negotiator Tools and Techniques for Effective Negotiating,an MBA course book. The book mainly introduces the definition, style, and steps of negotiation and provides many practical negotiation skills, giving readers a greater insight into negotiation.By analyzing the characteristics of the text and combining with Peter Newmark’s classification of text types, the author determines that the original text is an informative text for learning about negotiation.Based on the text type,Newmark’s communicative translation theory is applied in the process of translation to analyze specific translation examples and summarize the translation skills suitable for negotiation texts from the lexical, syntactic, and textual levels. On the one hand, the author grasps relevant background knowledge of negotiation by reading parallel texts. On the other hand, considering that the readers are Chinese, various translation skills need to be flexibly used to make the translation concise and smooth. In terms of vocabulary, for professional terms, abbreviations, and other different types of vocabulary, the translation methods of literal translation plus annotation, addition, and conversion are adopted to accurately convey the original information. In view of the differences in expression habits between English and Chinese, for long and difficult sentences, the author adopts the methods of negation, division, and free translation to clear the reading obstacles for readers. In terms of discourse, the methods of ellipsis, conjunction, and repetition are adopted respectively to achieve textual cohesion and coherence, making the translation readable.Through the translation practice, the author not only gains an in-depth understanding of the background knowledge of negotiation, but also improves her translation ability.Above all,it is hoped that the translation report can provide a certain reference for negotiation text translation. |
