The text selected in this translation practice is Lisa Wingate’s novel Tending Roses, which tells a series of stories about the lives of the author and his grandmother. The original text has distinct literature characteristics and indirect denotation. The author always uses some indirect ways to express his or her meaning,so that the meaning can not be guessed at without guessing and consideration. The indirect denotation of literary language is aimed at strengthening the aesthetic attributes and artistic appeal. The indirect literary denotation of the text is mainly reflected in two aspects:rhetoric and implied information. The use of some rhetoric can avoid plain language,so that the reader has a rich imagination space and aesthetic effect. In addition, literary discourse is indicative, full of ambiguity and rich in implication, which can only be grasped in specific context. Some information is not the literal meaning, and it has the implied meaning and contains rich meaning, which shows the indirect denotation of literary language. The translation of implied information must be translated within the context.Due to the differences in Chinese and western cultures and expression habits, how to translate these rhetoric and implicit information becomes a difficult problem in this translation practice report. The translation of rhetoric is mainly to retain the vivid language of the original text and reproduce the rhetorical effect of the original text. The translation of implicit information should be combined with the specific context and situation context, and the translation techniques such as augmentation and extension are used.Through the translation practice report,I have a certain understanding of the translation of this kind of memoirs, and it is hoped that the translation of the reference language in the text will be of certain reference value to the translation practice of the same kind of translation.
