This report is written on the basis of the political text: Oxford Handbooks of Political Science. The text mainly describes the relationship between political institutions, political parties and public policies in western countries(especially in the United States). The source articles contain many political vocabularies and concepts. The composition of sentences and paragraphs is complex and the cultural background is different from the one of the translator's.It is difficult to understand and translate the original text.In addition, western politics is not only of great significance to western countries, but also has important reference value for other countries' politics. Therefore, the writing of such translation practices and translation practice reports has certain practical significance. In the process of translation practice, the main problem encountered by the translator is the translation of indirect literary denotation in non-literary texts.Metaphor and juxtaposition are used as breakthroughs, and they are analyzed from two levels respectively: vocabulary and sentence. For the translation of metaphor, the translator starts with basic metaphor and compound metaphor, and adopts literal translation, free translation, addition and subtraction methods. For the translation of juxtaposition structure, the translator not only adopts the above methods, but also uses the methods of omitting translation and changing sentence structure.Besides,in order to make the translation closer to the target readers, the translator insists on using the domestication strategy.Through this translation practice, the translator has a certain understanding of the western political and cultural background, and has a little summary of the translation of political papers, hoping to bring some reference value for future translators of similar texts.
