In recent years, the rapid development of modern scientific information technology has had a profound and positive impact on China’s education.Under the environment of educational informatization,it is an inevitable trend of educational reform to apply modern educational technology in English teaching.Teachers and students should make full use of abundant teaching resources, and innovate teaching model and learning model. The “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” for National Education Development clearly states that“Encourage teachers to use information technology to improve teaching standards, innovate teaching models, and use high-quality digital resources by using flipped classroom and Blended Learning model.” At present, most scholars at home and abroad often use “Blended learning” to name the new teaching model combining online and offline in the new information era.this study continues to use “Blended learning” to express this concept, that is,a combination of face-to-face teaching and online guided learning.Because the traditional teaching model and the online learning model have their own advantages and weaknesses, this study explores the practical application of the combined learning of the two in English teaching in order to achieve complementary advantages.Through literature review, the previous studies on the Blended Learning have mostly focused on the theoretical aspects. In the past two years, the research of the application part has been significantly improved, but it focuses more on colleges and universities, the application research in basic education, especially in junior middle school,is less.Due to the situation that some junior middle school students have low interest and indifferent attitudes in English learning. Therefore, this research aims to solve the following questions.(1)How does the Blended Learning model affect the English proficiency of junior middle school students?(2)How does the Blended Learning model affect junior middle school students’ interest and attitude in English learning? The researcher selected two parallel classes in Grade 8 in a middle school in Xinyang City,Henan Province as experimental subjects, and conducted a 17-week teaching experiment. The experimental class adopted the Blended Learning model forteaching, while the control class still applied the traditional teaching model. This thesis mainly uses qualitative and quantitative methods to obtain relevant experimental data from English proficiency tests, questionnaires and interviews, and conducted statistics and analysis through SPSS.After one semester of teaching experiment, the researcher drew the following conclusions.(1)The application of the Blended Learning model could effectively improve students’ English proficiency. After the experiment, the performance of the experimental class improved significantly compared with the control class.(2)The application of the Blended Learning model in junior middle school English teaching had a positive effect on students’ interest and attitude in English learning. The main manifestation was that students’ confidence in English learning was obviously enhanced, and they could participate in teaching activities in class actively, and dared to speak.Based on the major findings and limitations of this research, the thesis makes suggestions for future teaching research.First of all, teachers need pay attention to continuously improving students’ initiative and consciousness, such as designing diversified teaching activities, and selecting materials to combine students’ actual conditions.Secondly, teachers need continuously improve their ability to use information technology to optimize teaching. Finally, teachers can try to make full use of the multiple functions of Blended Learning and a variety of high-quality online media and resources.
