Simultaneous interpreting,as a vital form of interpreting, plays an essential role in international high-end conferences and forums.Simultaneous interpreting puts forward extremely high requirements for interpreters. In the process of interpreting,if the interpreters fail to transfer the source language into the translation that conforms to the target language’s expression habits within a limited time, various mistakes will occur, which would affect the smooth progress of communication.Under the guidance of Adaptation Theory, this thesis selects E-C simultaneous interpreting of the dialogue between Ma Yun and Elon Musk in 2019 World Artificial Intelligence Conference(WAIC),Ma’s speeches at 2019 World Economic Forum(WEF)Annual Meeting and at 2017 Fortune Global Forum(FGF)as the research corpus. In this thesis, four perspectives of Adaptation Theory are used as theoretical tools to analyze the mistakes, causes and relevant coping strategies of the interpreters in E-C simultaneous interpreting,so as to help more interpreters avoid or reduce mistakes in the future.Qualitative research method is applied in this thesis. The research corpus consists of three videos, with a total length of 124 minutes and 5seconds,and the transcription is appropriately 47,700 words. The findings are as follows:(1)the interpreters pause for a long time and make oral mistakes in interpreting, mainly because they do not follow the principle of contextual adaptation;(2)if the interpreters fail to make clear the structural characteristics of Chinese and English, the interpretation tends to lack logical relations;(3)lack of consciousness of dynamic adaptation is likely to cause wrong information output;(4)the interpreters’ inappropriate degree of salience is more inclined to result in information loss.In consequence, the study concludes that:(1)making adaptation to contextual correlates helps interpreters reduce oral mistakes and long time lag;(2)interpreters need to master the characteristics of source and target languages and appropriately adapt to the language structure to enhance the logical relationship of the interpretation;(3)awareness of dynamic adaptation helps to decrease wrong information output;(4)appropriate degree of salience can reduce the lack of information.
