| With the deepening of globalization, international exchanges in various fields have become increasingly close. The press conferences held by the State Council Information Office of the PRC has gradually become one of the important media for communication and transmission of information among countries around the world. At the same time, simultaneous interpreting,as the most efficient form of interpreting, plays a vital role in these press conferences. This thesis is under the guidance of adaptation theory proposed by Belgian pragmatist Jef Verschueren, taking the Chinese-English simultaneous interpreting on the press conference held by the State Council Information Office on combating COVID-19 in 2020 as examples. This thesis uses case analysis method to study the strategies for simultaneous interpreting on the press conference. From the three angles of Jef Verschueren’s adaptation theory, this thesis analyzes and summarizes the strategies and methods used in the process of interpreting on press conference, hoping to provide some reference for interpreters in the practice of simultaneous interpreting. The research finds that: 1)In the simultaneous interpreting for press conference, interpreters need maintain their strong sense of adaptation at all times and make continuous dynamic language selections.2)The strategies of the selection of words and the selection of the meaning of the words adaptation frequently appear in the simultaneous interpreting of press conference.During the simultaneous interpreting process, interpreters produce the interpretation by using the strategies and methods of omission, addition, paraphrase, cohesive devices as well as adjusting language structure, thus reducing the memory burden of the interpreter.3)In order to achieve linguistic and cultural adaptation in simultaneous interpreting,it is necessary that interpreters should to make adequate preparations for professional terms in advance.Hopefully, this study has certain theoretical guidance and practical reference value for the simultaneous interpreting on press conference. |
