"None-Tailed Tortoise" is one of the major works of Wu dialect vernacular Chinese novel in late Qing Dynasty.In the aspect of linguistic performance,Zhang Chunfan made a point of using Suzhou dialect and vernacular to compose which allowing readers to make sense of the dialogues of characters scene unfolding before their eyes.It reflects the features of aspects of the lexical,grammatical,phonetic feature of Wu dialect at that time simultaneously.This linguistic performance is of a great value to study the Wu dialect.The notional words of Wu dialect in None-Tailed Tortoise are taken as the main object to make textual criticisms and explanations.I explore the notional word by consulting “Wu dictionary in Ming and Qing Dynasties” ? “ Motivations of the Characters” and “Comprehensive Dictionary of Regional Dialects of Modern Chinese".The diachronic and synchronic methods are adopted to explore the meaning of the notional words,which can not only demonstrate the development and evolution of the notional words of Wu dialect,but also take evidences from other works of Wu dialect at the same periods.This article strives to demonstrate the development status and rules of Wu dialect vocabulary in the late Qing Dynasty.The paper is divided into six parts.Chapter 1 Research Summary.In this chapter,I introduced the overview of the vocabulary of Su-Hu dialect in Ming and Qing Dynasties and None-Tailed Tortoise;The definition of the dialect words;The research methods I used in this paper and the value and significance of this study.Chapter 2dynasties.Research status of the nine-tailed turtle;Definition of the other party's words;The research methods and the research value and significance of the nine-tailed turtle are introduced.The second,third and fourth chapters are the main contents of the article.I enumerate all the Wu dialect notional words of None-Tailed Tortoise through exhaustively retrieving of “Wu dictionary in Ming and Qing Dynasties".Taking the classification standard of "Synonymy Thesaurus" as the reference,I take the meaning and the part of speech as the classifying criterion to classify and interpret all the Wu dialect notional words appearing in the "None-Tailed Tortoise".According to their parts of speech,the Wu dialect notional words are divided into four categories: noun,verb,adjective and post-break colloquialism.First the nouns can be refined into People,Object,Time and Space and Abstract things;Second the adjectives are divided into two categories by applying to person or object;The thrid,the verb is divided into three parts: Body movement,Psychological activities,and Life activities;The fourth,the Allegorical saying.According to the further refinement of semantic features,these categories are divided into different sub-classes.The meaning of the word in Wu dialect is further clarified by combining with other Wu dialect novels in order to show the origin,evolution and preservation of Wu dialect.Chapter five is the conclusion.
