| Nowadays, with the rapid development of economy and society, globalization has become the mainstream of the 21st century and even centuries ahead.Within such a circumstance, communication among nations speaking different languages becomes more significant, thus, providing more opportunities for translators and interpreters.English, the lingua franca for over a century, plays a key role in intercultural communication as a bridge in the world.SI,also known as simultaneous interpreting, refers to a form of interpreting that interprets continuously without interrupting the speaker’s speech.By doing so,conventioneers can keep pace with the speaker without any delay so as to achieve a high efficiency of communication. This thesis, based on the author’s practice on simultaneous interpreting for an English speech“Enhancing a Mutual Cooperation between China and Indonesia”delivered by an Indonesian government official, aims at studying the phenomenon of the effort distribution and the errors-making in simultaneous interpreting by application of the idea of Gile’s effort model.By analyzing the examples, the author found that in order to better accomplish the interpreting task, interpreters should avoid working in overloaded situation for too long time. However,in this practice, the author encountered a series of difficulties in interpreting such as high information density, more professional terms, and unclear utterance of the speaker, which led to imbalanced effort distribution and some errors in interpreting.Meanwhile, the author also expounded the flexible use of three interpreting strategies including omission, prediction, and syntactic linearity that can reduce the interpreters’energy distribution to a certain degree.By summarizing and reflecting on this practice, the author garners a lot of enlightenments, which will be conducive to the author’s future interpreting work and learning, and hopes this report will provide some reference for novice of interpreting. |
