In recent years,domestic people's attention to climate change and marine ecological issues has been continuously strengthened.The 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China clearly stated: “We must give high priority to making ecological progress and incorporate it into all aspects and the whole process of advancing economic,political,cultural,and social progress,work hard to build a beautiful country,and achieve lasting and sustainable development of the Chinese nation”.This report is based on the translation of Chapter 18 and Chapter 19 of The Ocean of Life: The Fate of Man and the Sea.The source text mainly describes the climate warming and marine ecological crisis,and explores corresponding solutions,which is regarded as an invaluable wealth for environmental and marine ecological protection.It features on the informative function,with a certain operative function.In the process of translation,the difficulties encountered by the translator lies in the fact that a large number of proper nouns about oceanography,chemistry,physics and other fields,passive sentences and long sentences were involved in the source text.Therefore the translator must have certain professional knowledge and be flexible in changing the expression of the language to achieve best translation.In light of the features and difficulties,this report mainly discusses the Chinese translation of the original text from the lexical,syntactic and text level in accordance with Reiss' s text typology theory.And various translation methods were employed to reflect the different functions of the text.This report includes five chapters.Chapter one introduces the background,purpose and significance of the project in detail.Chapter two describes the whole translation process.Chapter three analyzes the text types and language characteristics of the source text and introduces the theoretical framework.Chapter four is the core part of this report,which expounds the case study under the guidance of text typology theory.Chapter five makes a conclusion of this translation report.
