Wen Long’s commentary is the third one which criticized The Plum in the Golden Vase detailed,next to the Zhang Zhupo’s Comments and Chongzhen Golden Lotus,it was first discovered in the National Library of China by Liu Hui in 1985 when he consulted the edition of The Plum in the Golden Vase.The criticism of The Plum in the Golden Vase by Wen long was written on the edition of the Zhang Zhupo’s Commentary.There are more than 60000 words in the book,including comments,eyebrows and side comments.The comments are complete and independent.It involves the theme,structure,character image,ideological art and many other aspects of The Plum in the Golden Vase.It is the most important criticism version of The Plum in the Golden Vase,which is only next to the Zhang Zhupo’s Commentary.Its contents and theories in his comments inherited and surpassed Zhang Zhupo’s criticism,including many opposite view,especially in character reviews.Therefore,it is necessary to make a comparative study of the two in terms of relevant contents.In addition to the introduction and conclusion,this thesis is divided into four parts.The foreward clarifies the reason of choosing this topic and the current situation of the research on Wen long’s commentary.Although Wen long’s comments on The Plum in the Golden Vase are of great literary value and literary significance,due to its late discovery and not published at that time,people today know little about Wen long’s criticism of The Plum in the Golden Vase,and the academic circles have little research results on it,only a few articles published by Liu Hui,He Genmin and so on.So it is necessary to carry out in-depth research on it.In the first chapter,it focuses on Wen Long’s unique understanding of the main idea of The Plum in the Golden Vase.In this chapter,first of all,it fully discusses the predecessors’ attitudes and views on The Plum in the Golden Vase.As soon as Jin Ping Mei came out,it was controversial,respected or condemned.Then,based on the comments of predecessors on The Plum in the Golden Vase,Wen long inherited and developed Zhang Zhupo’s theory of "non pornographic books",and put forward the view of "pornograp hic books,but also abstain from pornographic books".In Wen long’s opinion,it is an undoubted fact that Jin Ping Mei does contain obscene elements in its objective description.But more importantly,The Plum in the Golden Vase achieves the purpose of "abstaining from prostitution" through the way of "writing prostitution",with the educational function of "writing to carry the Tao",which is what Wen long wants to emphasize.The second chapter mainly discusses the criticism of "character views" in Wen long’s commentary.As a feudal official for a long time,Wen long had a very strong thought of feudal Taoist.He judged the characters according to the standard of feudal ethics and morality,but his comments on the female characters in the book were biased,which reflected the "female disaster thought" of the Chinese official at that time.In the aspect of character criticism,Zhang Zhupo and Wen long have contrary opinions,and their contradiction focuses on Wu Yueniang,Pang Chunmei,Ying Bojue and other characters.Therefore,in this chapter,the author makes a comparative study of the two characters’ criticism,and probes into the reasons for their differences in this respect.The third chapter discusses the theory of emotion in the criticism of The Plum in the Golden Vase by Wen long."Feeling" and "reason" have always been very important contents in the history of Chinese literature.Many literary works are written around these two concepts.First of all,it discusses the origin and development history of "emotion theory".In different periods of development,scholars have different emphases on "emotion" and "reason".Secondly,Tang Xianzu,Feng Menglong and Zhang Zhupo all have their own understanding of "emotion theory".Finally,Wen long views "emotion theory" with profound feudal ethics,which has some retrogression compared with predecessors.In the fourth chapter,it analyzes the origin of Wen long’s literary criticism.First of all,it introduces Wen long’s life experience and cultural environment at that time.Wenlong,who appreciates The Plum in the Golden Vase very much.Secondly,it analyzes Wen long’s critical aesthetic thought.Wen long made a deep analysis of the enlightenment function of The Plum in the Golden Vase,and put forward the view of "the way to cultivate oneself and to be a family,and the way to deal with others".Finally,it discusses the enlightenment of Wen long comments on readers,that is to read and evaluate a book with an objective and true attitude.Conclusion.On the basis of the previous research,this paper summarizes Wen long’s basic views on the theme,characters and literary thoughts in the criticism of The Plum in the Golden Vase,clarifies his basic attitude and principles to literary criticism,and affirms the significance of his literary criticism.
