Research Of Clothing Color Words In The Plum In The Golden Vase

The Plum in the Golden Vase is the first independent writing novel in the Chinese history of ancient literature. The novel is recognized as the leading role on the quantity and frequency of description of clothing colors. In other words, the description of clothing in The Plum in the Golden Vase creates a new era of clothing portrayal in the Chinese history of ancient literature. Studying the color words of clothes is good for not only constructing systems of modern color words, but also helping propelling the study of Chinese ancient clothing. In this paper, we exhaustively retrieve the clothing color words in The Plum in the Golden Vase. The panorama of clothing color words in the novel is illustrated entirety through summarization and organization.The color words of clothes in this thesis can be broadly separated into eight parts, the former seven are classified as red, green, yellow, black, white, blue, purple. And the others are placed in a category of others. The paper makes an analysis and argumentation to the way clothing color words structured, color definitions, frequency of appearance, characters, variety of the clothing, as well as the cultural connotations. This article falls into ten chapters, the first Chapter is the introduction, in which mainly introduce topics of this study cause, related research discusses and research approaches and methods. The color words are analyzed and discussed from chapter 2 to chapter 9, depending on the adequacy of the literature referenced. Chapter 10 is the conclusion of the whole paper. Three primary colors are red, blue and yellow, and they are widely used in The Plum in the Golden Vase, thus constituting the main body of clothing color words. The red color with the strong position, occupies an dominant position in the color people use on clothes.
