A Comparative Study Of Meteorological Words In The First And Seventh Editions Of Modern Chinese Dictionaries

This paper makes a comparative analysis of the meteorological words in the first edition and the seventh edition of Modern Chinese Dictionary.It makes a specific comparison and analysis on the overall situation,the inclusion situation and the interpretation situation of the words,and it makes an investigation on the usage of the addition and deletion words,additions and deletions meanings and semantic generalization by combining with the corpus.It is divided into the following parts.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the reasons,research objects,research status and research methods of this paper.The second chapter describes the general appearance of meteorological words in the two dictionaries from the characteristics of syllables,the number of senses and the distribution of thesaurus.Firstly,meteorological words are mainly disyllabic words,and there are some monosyllabic words and polysyllabic words.In terms of the number of sense terms,monosyllable is the main type,and temperature words are the most common word.The third chapter is a study on the changes of meteorological words included in the two editions of dictionaries.In terms of lexicography,we investigate the changes of meteorological words,the ways of adding and deleting,and the linguistic features of adding and deleting words.At the same time,the corp-based test is adopted to explore the relationship between item adding and deleting and the frequency of words used,and it is concluded that the addition and deletion of items included in the dictionary is influenced by the codification principle,concept and technical level on the one hand,and reflects the status of social language vocabulary on the other hand.The fourth chapter is a comparative study of the definitions of meteorological words in the two dictionaries from three aspects: addition,deletion and modification of definitions.Addition and deletion are subdivided from macro addition and deletion to micro adjustment and subdivided into three aspects: changes in meanings,special notes and sentences.The main changes of meteorological words' meaning in the two editions are the modification types,while the addition and deletion of meanings are relatively few.Finally,from the perspectiveof the evolution of meanings,it is demonstrated that the evolution of meteorological words in the two editions mainly reflects the enlargement of meanings.The fifth chapter is the research on the new generalization of meteorological words.We find that some meteorological words are not found in the 1st edition but in the 7th edition are used in other fields.According to the generalization,they can be divided into figurative generalization and extended generalization.At the same time,referring to the corpus,it is found that some words are prone to semantic generalization in actual use,but they have not been included in the dictionary.For the unincluded generalization words,we select the words with high frequency to provide reference for the revision of Modern Chinese Dictionary.Finally,it is pointed out that meteorological words with long time,close contact with people's life,dynamic and figurative are easy to be generalized.The sixth chapter is the conclusion,which summarizes the research results of this paper.
